What are those little cottages at the above photo, behind the fence?

Those are “tiny houses” in a managed camp for homeless or houseless folks. One of several efforts to provide transitions from living on the streets to more permanent housing.

That is a nice idea.

They’ve been met with mixed reactions. For some they resemble concentration camps. They’ve had a hard time finding organizations to manage them. They’ve struggled to find locations for them. A few neighborhoods have welcomed them, but most find all kinds of reasons to oppose them.

That reaction sounds typical, people oppose everything they are not familiar with.
