When I saw it I was disappointed at the low guard stripping behind it. I don’t know if it was for safety or to stop erosion or what but it really detracted from the classic simplicity of the building. Also, the layout and landscaping of the estate was awkward. I wasn’t expecting that from such a purist designer.
I wonder if the guard came about after the estate was opened to the public for tours. All of Phillip’s drinking buddies probably didn’t need such restraint, back in the day. I’ve never thought of him as a purist designer, more of an explorer of different styles. His arrangement of the various buildings does seem a bit haphazard.
Ahhh yes, the ‘glass house’ 😁😁. Lived in CT for many years.
